Playing with Pet Decks Hulk Creativity: Decklist-Sideboard Guide
Hello everyone Kyle G here again to talk pioneer and today I will be discussing one of my favorite pet decks in the format, Hulk Creativity. This deck has not been seen in the meta for quite a bit of time and with the rise of other decks being able to fight this strategy, the deck just slowly faded into the background. But with the printing of new cards in the past couple months this deck has gotten a few tools to work with that I'm excited to talk about!
Now let's talk about the main strategy of the deck. Your main goal is to be able to discard Magma Opus early on and then be able to cast it as early as turn four by casting Indomitable Creativity to cheat in Torrential Gearhulk to cast opus from your yard for free. This strategy plays more often like an Izzet Control deck that happens to also have an explosive value combo in it. On another note, compared to most creativity decks, we can also just reliably cast our creativity target and not need to splash mana or have cards in our deck in order to either cast our target or find ways to put it back in our deck.
Now the new cards I wanna talk about are Deduce and Torch the Tower. Deduce is a super powerful card that has been making waves in both Pioneer and Standard being able to draw two cards early on as well as making a clue token to be able to hit with Creativity. This card also gives you a little more game against the hand hate decks by letting you have cards in play without having them in your hand to get hit with hand hate. And even the clue token Deduce makes works really well with Torch the Tower’s Bargain effect to get that extra damage in. Torch is a really good removal spell in the format right now being able to nearly always deal 3 damage to creatures and planeswalkers as well as exiling them when killed, which is very valuable.
Now why would we play this deck? I feel this strategy is pretty good for the creature decks and has a pretty favorable Phoenix matchup. The deck is also very flexible in how you want to build it so you can adapt pretty freely to whatever your local meta is like. This deck is really fun and I would highly recommend trying it. Until next time, stay Creative.
